But Wait......

We had been told that SEC defenses are only good because no one in the SEC runs a competent offense. I guess that is down the tubes.

Again, we don’t put a whole lot of stock into bowl games. We just don’t like ‘em. Ohio State is much better than they showed last night. Better than Florida? No, but the Bucknuts deserved to be there. It wasn’t like they had two losses or played in a weak sister conference.

Florida’s win just reinforced a fundamental idea that we at W.W.B.S. hold dear. In a matchup of evenly talented teams, a solid defensive scheme and execution wins.

Sure Chris Leak looked great, but we are not about to announce him as the second coming of Joe Montana. Evidently some Florida fans have lost their freakin’ minds and want the guy canonized for playing one decent game against a team that didn’t blitz him.

As we made numerous reference too all year, Florida was winning because of it’s defense. The offense is not difficult to defend and averaged 22.25 points per game in the eight regular season SEC games. Not exactly explosive stuff there.

Florida's Defense: Sexy like Tera Patrick, but doesn't get penetrated as often

No, the defense carried Florida throughout the season and won the game against Ohio State on Monday night. Florida’s defense gave the Gators’ offense great field position. Florida’s average starting position? Their own 45 yard line. The Gators had scoring drives of 46, 34, 71, 32 (field goal), 6 (field goal), 5, and 39 yards. In fact, only once did Florida score a touchdown when they got the ball on their own side of the field.

So, kids what did we learn in school today? Defense, defense, defense. If you have good solid defense, you will win a lot more times than you lose.
