SEC PREVIEW: South Carolina

What a South Carolina Fan Thinks: “We got the Ol Ball Coach, we got Mitchell, we got Rice, we’re going to Atlanta. Our defense? We got Tyron Nix. Whatever, who cares about defense. You don’t need defense when you got Spurrier. We’re looking at 9 wins easy.”

What a Clemson Fan Thinks: “13-9….13-9. That’s all I got to say, baby. Nine points is all the Evil One could put up on us last year and we’re better this year. Just remember, nine points. Man, the Little Cocks go 6-6 this year. Maybe 7-5.”

What Do I Think: Any team that has Steve Spurrier as its coach is dangerous. Another year with The Visored One can only help Blake Mitchell. Plus, Sidney Rice is sick. I do have serious concerns about how South Carolina improves its defense. When the Gamecocks come up against a team that can rush the ball and control the clock they have serious issues. Primarily because the offense, their best weapon, isn’t on the field. Honestly, the only thing that keeps them above 0.500 is that they play no one on the road. Their SEC road games consist of Mississippi State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Florida. Other than Florida there are three definite wins there. They have Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, and Arkansas coming to Colombia. One of those four will get surprised and the Gamecocks finish with 7 to 8 wins.

Easily Win: Florida Atlantic, Mississippi State, Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Wofford
Should Win: Kentucky
Coin Toss: Clemson
Might Lose: Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee
Will Lose: Florida

South Carolina Factoid You May Not Have Known: The credentials on Spurrier are obscene, a 0.765 winning percentage in college, an overall winning record with every team he has coached except for the Redskins, and the only current SEC coach to hold a winning record against every SEC school. However, Spurrier is 6-7 in bowl games.
