SEC PREVIEW: Kentucky
What a Louisville Fan Thinks: “Are you really asking me this question? I have no idea and I don’t care. Maybe 2 wins. Now, basketball season is a different story. Kentucky can actually stay in the gym with us, but football? Not really close.”
What Do I Think?: Wow, what can really be said. If they make it to a bowl game, I would be somewhat shocked. The biggest question is can Rich Brooks keep his job.
The Wildcats have decent talent at quarterback and running back. Andre Woodson had a pretty good season last year, given the talent surrounding him, and Rafael Little has excellent speed in the backfield. Last year, Kentucky lost a number of offensive linemen and had to play three true freshmen that were redshirting. So, one would think Kentucky will see some improvement on the line, which will help the offense.
A common sight for Rafael Little
Defensively, they will return five of their top six linebackers from last year, but none of the defensive line starters. The line might be more talented than last year, but definitely less experienced. They will need to reduce their 34.1 points per game average this year if they want to make it to a bowl game.
Kentucky has a tough road schedule with trips to Tennessee, LSU, and Florida. The home schedule features manageable games against Texas State, ULM, Central Michigan, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt. This may be the only thing that saves Rich Brooks’ job this year. I’lll go ahead and say they win 5 games. I might be stretching it, but I’m feeling generous.
Easily Win: Texas State
Should Win: University of Louisiana – Monroe
Coin Toss: Central Michigan, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt
Might Lose: None
Will Lose: Louisville, Florida, South Carolina, LSU, Georgia, and Tennessee
Kentucky Factoid You May Not Have Known: Although known throughout the world for its thoughbred horses, the state of Kentucky does not have a school of veterinary medicine.
