SEC Picks - Week 2

We will get to the hulking, monstrosity of a game in a little bit. First, Junior and I pick the unimportant SEC games this week. Without further ado….

Florida at Tennessee – Florida favored by 4

Junior: I’m not sold on either team to be honest. Which UT team will show up? The one that smoked Cal, or the one that squeaked by Air Force? Will Florida’s defense stop a decent offense? Tenn 21, Florida 20.

Buford: I’m going to agree with my boy on this one. Both teams are a question mark. This one comes down to two things: 1) Who can protect their respective quarterback and 2) Will Tennessee play ultra conservative like they have in recent years? I’m tending to think that this is an up and down and rather sloppy game. There will be a lot of turnovers with neither side taking the advantage until late in the game. I like Tennessee in this one because I don’t think Florida will be able to run on that Tennessee defense, which will set up long yardage on 3rd down for Mr. Leak and Tennessee will be able to really get after him. Tenn 27, Florida 24.

UL-Monroe at Alabama – Alabama favored by 24

Junior: Can Bama score 24 points? Bama has Sarah Jessica Parker at QB, ULM has a serviceable QB. Bama also has Darby and a defense. Bama 25, ULM 13.

Buford: I can see it now, Alabama will win this week and next and Sports Illustrated will put John Parker Wilson on it’s cover and proclaim Alabama to be back. Back to reality, this is a test game for Alabama. Any hint of a struggle will be trouble. I expect them to score easily and, I can’t believe I’m going to say this, cover the 24. Alabama 31, ULM 0.

Arkansas at Vanderbilt – Arkansas favored by 6

Junior: Ok, I’ll be honest, I know nothing about Arkansas outside of McFadden. That and if Mitch Mustain is related to the former Megadeth frontman Dave Mustain, Arkansas will have a QB quite capable of rocking for three more years. How good is Vandy’s D? They really played well against a much more talented Bama team last weekend. Can they hold in check one of the top three backs in the SEC again? Hogs 24, Vandy 10.

Buford: Mega what? Good Lord boy, that’s tha devil’s music. Dumbshit. It appeared that the young Mr. Mustain settled down last week against Utah State. Don’t let the Alabama/Vandy game fool you, Alabama had a few turnovers in scoring position. That game should have been worse than it was. This game is in Nashville, so Vandy will cover, but Arkansas will win. Piggies 24, Vandy 21.

Alabama-Birmingham at Georgia – Georgia favored by 17

Junior: Good game for Richt to have his young guys get some playing time. Dawgs 35, Blazers 10.

Buford: I didn’t see Georgia’s defense being this good. There is definitely some talent on that side of the field. There is talent on the offensive side too, but it is going to be slow going with Stafford at quarterback. In this game, I could play quarterback and Georgia would win. Dawgs 30, UAB 10

Mississippi at Kentucky – Kentucky favored by 2.5

Junior: How badly is the Orgeron going to smash the odds makers in Vegas? A road dog? To Kentucky? Wow. Something tells me that the Orgeron will have the Rebels fired up. Especially after that beatdown from Mizzou last week (Go Tigers). Rebs 17, Cats 14.

Buford: I’m really concerned about Ole Miss. No way, did I think they were as bad as they have looked thus far. Kentucky has some offensive firepower and the Rebels haven’t shown the ability to stop anyone. Additionally, Kentucky is treating this like the Super Bowl. Cats 20, Rebels 10.

Tulane at Mississippi State – State favored by 10.5

Junior: Worst in the SEC vs. Worst in CUSA. Bulldogs 14, Greenies 3.

Buford: Uffff…thinking about this game makes me have to throw up. This could be a 0-0 tie after five overtimes. Greenies 10, State 3.

Wofford at South Carolina - Off

Junior: Just what the offense needs, right Steve? USC 31, Wofford 0.

Buford: My question is would Smelley Cock have started this game anyway? USC 42, Wofford 10.
