SEC Picks - Week #5

Another week, more domination by your humble sheriff. I went 7-2 straight up and 4-4 against the spread last week, raising the season record to 14-3 and 10-5, respectively. Junior? Well, he is struggling, but I’m sure he will get better soon. He was 6-3 straight up and 3-5 against the spread last week. For the year, he is 10-7 straight up and 4-11 against the spread.

We have both decided that Ole Miss' membership to the SEC is being revoked. They lost to an ACC team for crying out loud. Sure Mississippi State lost to Tulane, but the Greenies used to be in the SEC.

The picks are up early because of the Auburn-South Carolina tilt tonight in Colombia. In other games, Florida and Alabama will get together for the revenge game of the year in Gainesville. Uhhh, go Gators. Any team whose fans do this, doesn’t deserve support. I can take naming the dog Bear or Crimson, but honestly, getting married in a football stadium? No thanks. Of course, she was wearing a red dress, so let’s just see how long this thing lasts. Good luck kids.

Tennessee at Memphis – Tennessee favored by 13.5

Junior: UT seems to be back on track and cruising. Vols 24, Tigers 10.

Buford:
Memphis isn’t the same without DeAngelo Williams. My boy put it exactly right, the Vols seem to have reached cruising altitude. They are right on track for 9 wins. Vols 31, Memphis 14.

Mississippi State at Louisiana State – Louisiana State favored by 31

Junior:
Guess that streak stops at one, eh Bulldogs? Tigers 63, Bulldogs 6.

Buford: Eh? Eh? Are you Canadian? I think the Bandit is Canadian. I hate the Bandit. Moving on. I really think the Bulldogs have a pretty good defense. Plus, this one starts at 11:30. Those damn Cajuns don’t like getting up that early. Louisiana State 38, Bulldogs 10.

Central Michigan at Kentucky – Kentucky favored by 6

Junior:
Can the Wildcats make it to a bowl game this year? They’ll need gimmies like this one if they are going to do it. Cats 35, Central Michigan 17.

Buford: Call me crazy, but this one is closer than it should be. I think the Cats will win, but I just don’t see them covering. Kentucky 24, Central Michigan 21.

Temple at Vanderbilt – Vanderbilt favored by 33

Junior:
If this were basketball, the Owls might win. It’s not and they don’t. Dores 17, Owls 7.

Buford:
Has Vanderbilt ever been favored by 33? Good Lord. I know Temple sucks, but what does Vegas know that I don’t know? Vanderbilt 35, Temple 0.

Georgia at Mississippi – Georgia favored by 17

Junior:
Mark Richt if you don’t blow these chumps away, I’ve lost all respect for you. I don’t give a damn about a QB controversy or not. Georgia 31, Ole Piss 7.

Buford: Word out of Oxford is that Schaffer’s hold on the quarterback position is slipping. He will start this week, but Seth Adams is breathing down his neck. Of course, none of this matters because the defense really sucks. Georgia 24, Mississippi 3.

Alabama at Florida – Florida favored by 13.5

Junior:
I think the Gators remember last year’s beat down and returns the favor in kind. Gators 38, Alabama 13.

Buford: Does Shula bring Tiffin on the plane to Gainesville? Will it alter his play calling? But hey, I like Shula. I think he is doing a fine job. In fact, he deserves a raise and an extension. Florida 35, Alabama 21.

Auburn at South Carolina – Auburn favored by 14.5

Junior:
The Tigers visit the Cocks on a Thursday night game. I’m excited since he’s stuck in Kansas City for work. If you’re in the Plaza, stop by George Brett’s and look for the goofy looking guy with the Auburn hat on. I don’t know what to think of Auburn’s offense after these last two games. Yes, on paper, Auburn should win. In real life, I’m scared to death. In the end, though, I think AU’s defensive line is the difference, as the Tigers win. Auburn 28, Cocks 17.

Buford:
Let’s see, Auburn’s defense is strong and South Carolina’s offense is really terrible. South Carolina’s defense is an unknown since they haven’t played a strong offense. Yes, I’m throwing Georgia into the weak offense category. Auburn’s offense is a juggernaut on the ground. The question is will anyone but Courtney Taylor catch the ball Thursday night? How about some throws to the tight ends? Is it bad when you are complaining about how your team hasn’t looked good? Sure, but that is the beauty pageant world of college football. Auburn 31, South Carolina 10.
