Who is the Best?
Now that we got the JV games out of the way, we can focus on the most important of them all this week, LSU at Auburn.
When last we left this fair duo, Auburn had missed five field goals (including one in overtime) and LSU had dropped two touchdown passes in route to a 20-17 thriller in Baton Rouge. Well, the band is back together and these two will lock horns in a matchup that will probably determine uber-team of the SEC this year.
Not much else can be written about this game. LSU comes in with a chip on its shoulder because it feels disrespected due to Auburn’s press clippings. I have talked about this already, but wanted to point out something Chris Low says on ESPN, if LSU had an established SEC coach and a running back that was receiving hype for the Heisman (deserved or not), it would be getting plenty of press. To my LSU brethren out there, I feel your pain.
Let’s be honest, both teams are damn near mirror images of each other. Both teams have had a lot of success in recent years, are very talented at nearly every position, have a cornucopia of speed at the skill positions, and two very capable head coaches that recruit well and run seemingly tight ships.
Hey celebrate great football and great football teams. These two combined with Georgia are the class of the SEC and have been for just about six years. Think about the games that each of these three teams have played against each other in the last few years. All of them have been outstanding contests. Each is an entry in the college football history books.
That being said, War Damn Eagle!!!!! I hope we beat the hell out of LSWho?
Louisiana State at Auburn – Auburn favored by 3
Junior: Jimbo vs. Muschamp: If Auburn can tackle, they have a chance. Based on what I’ve seen the first two weeks, they can’t. Advantage: LSU. Borges vs. Pelini: Why doubt Gorgeous? Advantage: Auburn. This one could be a track meet, but as Han Solo said, “I’ve got a bad feeling…” LSU 37, Auburn 28.
Buford: I can’t fight the feeling that this is going to be a blowout. I know that sounds crazy, but this game has run in streaks in recent years. There were blowouts in 2002 and 2003 (31-7 on either side), a 10-9 Auburn win in 2004, and a 20-17 LSU win last year. I think a blowout is on the docket and is certainly possible because I don’t think either defense is as good as they have been in the last few years. The real problem is that I can’t decide which offense is better or which offense will make the most mistakes. Auburn has seemingly played better competition and LSU hasn’t gone on the road. However, LSU’s offense has looked like world-beaters and Russell looks very impressive. Russell is an experienced quarterback, but then again Kenny Irons is a senior. You see? Very difficult. In fact, based on what I’ve written so far, the game should be close. My gut just tells me otherwise. I think the game will come down to coaching, who protects the quarterback better, which quarterback steps up and leads his team to victory, and luck. I think Auburn has the coaching advantage and LSU has the protection advantage. Oh hell… Auburn 34, LSU 7. Yes, I’m a homer and I’m probably wrong.
